How to find the Right Career
It was really very difficult to find the perfect career to suit your interest and beliefs in late 70’s. People believed in old-fashioned values, customs and opinions and were not concerned about the interests of an individual. There was no facility such as internet those days; we had knowledge only about the jobs that were around us. I can still recall how I selected best career for me, I made list of all my favorite courses and joined all the courses. Although all the courses were related but I must confess that it was really difficult to decide on the best one. My therapist was laughing the way by which I selected my best career as I went the other way around to select my career. Usually, people decide their major career and then select the courses. But as far as I think I did something very good at that time as either I was completely unaware about those facilities or we didn’t have such options that are available now a days to find the best career.
Nowadays, students are aware and have many tools for finding the right career. They generally use personality testing and employment or goal assessments from the very beginning of their college semesters. Although you might take help or assistance from psychometric testing tool, and career skills assessment to save your time and improve your aptitude but you may found it useless after some years and will have to start all over again to find the right career. Such tools only misguide you towards old courses that are of no use in future.
U.S. Department of Labor/Bureau of Labor Statistics provides the best way to find the right career; they have created and maintained Index to Careers Guide for students. This Index to Careers Guide is available both online and in physical. It is easily available in most of the career centers in colleges and high schools. You can browse for information about any career on the website “www.bls.dol.gov”. This website has all the information about qualifications required for the job, salaries, nature of work, working conditions, training, number of jobs or positions held in that field, competition involved, and projected job openings about different careers

Such workbooks help you to find the best career by increasing your confidence by introducing you to several related quizzes and contests.
