Work Permit

A Work permit is a document that was adopted to abolish unethical and unfair practices of job recruitment. It is required if the person is under the age of eighteen and wants to do a job. It is ensured that the children working are safe from unethical and unfair treatment on the job. Most of the young children take a work permit as a rock in their way to success but the truth is that it is done to protect children from atrocities on the job.

For a long time children were employed irrespective of their age and physical condition. Such children are generally deprived of education and healthy living leading serious problems in society. Employers don’t pay much to these small children whereas they take full time work from them. Some jobs adversely affect the health of the children and are ruining their future. Therefore the work permit was designed to abolish such atrocities and help children.

If a student wants to do a job, he or she can apply for a work permit at  their school office and get going. Students must fill out some forms and submit copies of some of his or her documents. Soon the student receives a notice or confirmation that he or she can start working. There is also small fee charged of five dollars to attain your work permit.

It is better to pay a small fee and feel safe about your future and have no tension about the work permit. You need not to be afraid as a work permit will safeguard you against any harm. Both employers and students are frustrated by this process as according to law, the employer must have a copy of the minor’s work permit to be presented in case there is an investigation at the premises for work permits which usually happens without any intimation. However most of the employers feel that there are many underage children who are ready to work but they still have to follow the rules. Although different states have different policies a work permit is required wherever you go.

The company I worked in also employed several children, but my managers were strict about the laws and therefore there was no problem when ever there were raids or investigations for work permit of those children. At last, I would like to suggest every child who is working or is thinking to do a job to get a work permit for their safety.
